Non-Verbal Aspects of ASL (.6 CEUs PS)
9:00am to 12:00pm; 2:00pm to 5:00pm

This workshop will present a review of nonverbal aspects of ASL and how to incorporate these features to enhance interpretations. Topics will include facial expression, prosody, body shifts, classifiers (depictive verbs), use of space, and eye gaze.

1) Attendees will observe demonstrations of the use of facial expression, prosody, body shifting, classifiers, space and eye gaze and discuss features they notice and the meaning conveyed.

2) Attendees will also participate in activities to practice incorporating the targeted

features. Presenter: Joni Bice
Joni Bice has been involved in Deaf ministry for over 40 years with her husband, Danny. She was the Department Head for the Interpreter Training Program at Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City for 25 years. She holds RID certification (CSC) and professional level certification from ASLTA. She and Danny have 3 grown children and 10 grandchildren.
